Former CEO of the iconic New Delhi QSR chain Nirula’s Corner House and Mars Hotels & Restaurant Samir Kuckreja has booked a place in online restaurant discovery platform Zomato’s top management team.
Kuckreja will be spearheading the food tech firm’s cloud-based point of sale product, Zomato Base, as its president.
Launched last year, Zomato Base is an Android-based point of sale system that offers restaurants features including menu, recipe, inventory, management, a built-in payment solution that accepts debit and credit card payments, CRM and real-time analytics.
A spokesperson for Zomato commented on Kuckreja’s joining,
Last November, it was reported that Zomato was in talks for investments for their food delivery service as well as setting up cloud kitchens. The food tech company is also on the look out for fresh funding, since their $60 million investment in September 2015.
“Prior to joining Zomato, full-time this month, Samir has worked with us in the capacity of a consultant and already understands the business fairly well. We are excited to have him on board and look forward to learning from and leveraging his unique experience in helping develop the restaurant industry ecosystem in India.”
Kuckreja was the joint MD for Mars Hotels & Restaurants before he became the MD and CEO of Nirula’s till 2012, after which he started Tasanya Hospitality and served as the president of the National Restaurant Association of India till 2015.
Kuckreja’s appointment comes at a time when Zomato has chalked out plans for aggressive investments in food delivery and new businesses such as cloud kitchens.
