As per the latest market buzz, Baidu is in talks to invest in Indian e-commerce start-ups including Zomato, BookMyShow and BigBasket.

As per Baidu spokesperson,

“The Indian market represents an enormous opportunity for us to connect more people with services, and we plan to put more resources there in the future,”

There are no confirmations on the amounts of investment and the time frame involved as of now. However, India offers a potential market place with 20% of the total population being connected to the internet. The e-commerce market could grow in terms of the value of goods sold to $220 billion by 2025 from $11 billion in 2015.

Zomato is India’s leading restaurant search provider, while BookMyShow is the country’s top online seller of movies and events tickets. BigBasket is an online grocer.

Baidu’s interest in involving in talks with these companies suggests a future full of greater opportunities for these three and many more companies in near future.
